6-28-2006 2006 Liberty Challenge Pre-Race thoughts from Sam Schmidt Motorsports
Jaime Camara on the Liberty Challenge as racing as part of the U.S. Grand Prix:
“I do feel I’m better prepared going into this year’s race. I have another year of experience [in the Indy Pro Series], which helps me for sure. Based on the open test that we had at the Speedway last week, we were not yet where we want to be, but I know that we are fixing those problems and we will be okay. I need to continue to focus on doing my best, and we should be strong.”
Jay Howard on the Liberty Challenge as racing as part of the U.S. Grand Prix:
“Growing up in England, you always look at going into Formula One. Obviously, my career has taken a different path, but I’m really, really looking forward to running with the F-1 boys. I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s going to be like. The Indy 500 was the first big, international-level event where I took part in a supporting race, and that was incredible. I cannot even come up with a word that would really describe what I imagine it will be like running this weekend as part of the U.S. Grand Prix.”
Jonathan Klein on the Liberty Challenge as racing as part of the U.S. Grand Prix:
“I’m really excited to be running with the Formula One guys again. I ran with them last year in Montreal [in the Star Mazda Series] and it was a great experience. I think right now, going into this race, I’m hungrier than I’ve ever been to break through to the next level and get a podium finish. After being so close so many times, I’m really hungry to make it happen. I think right now the Pro Series is the most competitive it’s ever been. There are a lot of good guys, with a lot of talent out there. It’s going to be tough, but I think it’s going to be a great race.”
Sam Schmidt on racing at the U.S. Grand Prix:
"Obviously anytime we have the opportunity to compete at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it is a huge thrill," said team owner Sam Schmidt. "Couple that with it being on a Formula One weekend, and you will inevitably have a fantastic race. In my opinion, you have the best field of talent ever assembled for an Indy Pro Series race and I am very excited to see what the results will be. Our drivers are effectively 1-3-5 in driver points, so we need to do well to maintain or improve our positions. This will truly be a good test for everyone."
