Biography
At 18 years of age, Victor Carbone is the youngest member of the Sam Schmidt Motorsports stable of all-rookie Firestone Indy Lights drivers for 2011, but he’s certainly no less decorated in terms of race wins and championships as the rest. The Brazilian is coming off a championship in the hotly competitive F2000 Championship Series in 2010, during which he scored six wins, six pole positions, eight podium finishes in all, and four fastest race laps in 14 events.
The previous year, Carbone won all six go-kart races of the2009 Florida Winter Tour in the Stock Moto class and then kicked off his U.S. F2000 endeavors by earning a pair of top-five finishes in 10 outings to set the stage for his 2010 championship.
Carbone began racing go-karts in his native Brazil at 8 years of age and promptly finished sixth in a field of 31 of the top competitors in the country. He won Brazil’s Paulista Lite Karting Championship in 2002, followed by the South Brazilian Karting Championship title in 2006. In 2007, Carbone moved up to shifter-karts and finished sixth in a field of 17 competitors in the prestigious Supernationals in Las Vegas. In 2008, he tested Formula BMW, Star Mazda and F2000 cars before embarking on the Skip Barber National Championship series tour.
Outside the racecar, Carbone enjoys watching and playing soccer. He also enjoys preparing salmon pasta, lists The Fast & The Furious and Scarface as his favorite movies, and 1970s-era Ford Mustangs as his favorite street cars.
