Howard Wins Indy Pro Series Title at Chicagoland ...

In a race – and a championship – that was not decided until the final turn of the final lap of the final race of the season – Jay Howard did what he had to do to win the 2006 Indy Pro Series title for himself and Sam Schmidt Motorsports, with a third place finish to take the title ahead of teammate Jonathan Klein and defending series champion Wade Cunningham.

One day after team owner Sam Schmidt realized one of his lifetime dreams with an aerobatic flight in the Klein Tools Air Show planes, his team drivers swept qualifying at Chicagoland Speedway in preparation for a championship showdown in the final Indy Pro Series event of 2006.
Championship points leader Jay Howard led the way with a pole-qualifying effort of 188.774 mph, with friend, teammate and championship rival Jonathan Klein on the outside of the front row with a run of 188.285 mph.

Rookie Jonathan Klein again led the way for the Sam Schmidt Motorsports effort in qualifying action Friday for the double-header race weekend at Infineon Raceway, qualifying third for Saturday’s 30-lap race, with all four SSM drivers qualifying in the top 10.

MILWUKEE, Wis. (July 21) – Jay Howard led the trio of Sam Schmidt Motorsports drivers in qualifying Friday at the Milwaukee Mile, qualifying second for Saturday’s 100-lap Indy Pro Series race.
Howard has three other front row starts this year – he was pole qualifier for the season-opening Homestead race and qualified second at the Indianapolis oval event in May. He also qualified second last weekend at Nashville Superspeedway prior to going on to post his first IPS race win of 2006.

LEBANON, Tenn. (July 15) – Jay Howard led a 1-2-3 sweep by Sam Schmidt Motorsports Saturday at Nashville Superspeedway, with the Indy Pro Series rookie posting his first IPS race victory and leading teammates Jamie Camara and Jonathan Klein across the finish line.
Today’s win was the third consecutive for the Schmidt team at Nashville, coming on the heels of Camara’s victory here last year and Thiago Medeiros in 2004. It also was the first 1-2-3 sweep for the team in IPS competition.

He takes three hours to get up and out the door in the morning. He starts with one hour of range-of-motion therapy. Some days, he works out on an electronic bike to keep his muscles in shape.
