SAM SCHMIDT MOTORSPORTS SIGNS COMPUTER RENAISSANCE
FONTANA, Calif., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 – Computer Renaissance joined Sam Schmidt Motorsports Feb. 5 as an associate sponsor on the No. 99 Indy Racing League entry.
Computer Renaissance was created in 1988 with a focus of buying and selling used PC products to business clients. Hollis Technologies, located in Lakeland, Fla., acquired the company in August of 2000 with a goal of improving the refurbished focus and expanding the retail computer franchise concept into a strong national presence. There are currently 130 Computer Renaissance stores in the United States and Canada.
“This is our first involvement in motorsports, and we are delighted to be partners with Sam Schmidt Motorsports and the Indy Racing League,” said Matt Kelton, president of Computer Renaissance. “We plan to go above and beyond the basics of sponsorship by creating promotions in the retail outlets in various race markets. We are especially exited about being involved with a team competing at the largest single-day sporting event in the world, the Indy 500.”
2002 marks the second year of competition for Sam Schmidt Motorsports. Anthony Lazzaro, a Chevy Rookie of the Year contender, will drive the Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone machine at all 15 races on the Indy Racing League schedule, including the world-famous Indianapolis 500.
“Computer Renaissance is an innovative company with an outstanding management team,” said Sam Schmidt, owner of Sam Schmidt Motorsports. “We are excited to have them join our team for the entire 2002 season and look forward to providing impressive on-track results.”
Rick Frost and Chuck Welle created the company in Minneapolis. Originally it was based on the simple concept of: buy right, refurbish products to meet standards and sell at a substantial value. Grow Biz International acquired the concept with the philosophy of staying focused on used product, maintaining margins and driving a national chain of retail stores.
The company now adds value to the consumer by providing a steady stream of used/refurbished and new products with the added benefit of trading in their old product. The company’s goal is to make technology less stressful to the families and small businesses of North America.
