HEARN RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL

INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 – Indy Racing League driver Richie Hearn was released Aug. 14 from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after undergoing surgery Aug. 11 on his right ankle, Dr. Kevin Scheid said.

With only three races remaining on the IRL schedule, Hearn will not return to the race car before the end of the season, said Dr. Henry Bock, director of medical services for the Indy Racing League. Bock estimates recovery time at eight to 10 weeks.

Orthopedic specialists Scheid and Dr. Terry Trammell performed the surgery late on Aug. 11. Hearn broke his ankle in a Turn 2 crash on Lap 24 of the Belterra Casino Indy 300 earlier that day at Kentucky Speedway.
