SAM SCHMIDT MOTORSPORTS TO ENTER 87TH INDIANAPOLIS 500 MILE RACE

Veteran IndyCar owner to lease car and engine from Penske Racing, Inc.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - - Sam Schmidt Motorsports announced plans to lease one Panoz G-Force powered by Toyota to qualify for the 87th running of the Indianapolis 500-Mile race.  The team will lease the equipment from Penske Racing, Inc., the winningest team in Indianapolis Motor Speedway history.

“I appreciate the support that Penske Racing and Toyota have provided me in our quest to compete in the 2003 Indianapolis 500,” said Sam Schmidt.  “Without the dedication of many people this program would not have come together.  I look forward to competing in my third Indianapolis 500 as an owner and hope to repeat our success of last season.”

Richie Hearn, 32, had his best finish of the 2002 IRL IndyCar season with a fourth place finish at Nashville Motor Speedway with Sam Schmidt Motorsports. The combination also scored a sixth place finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Richie’s IndyCar career has been highlighted by a win in the inaugural event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“I am extremely excited about my prospects for the 87th Indianapolis 500-Mile Race,” said Hearn.  “My relationship with Sam and my experience at the Speedway has me confident for my fourth attempt at winning racing’s biggest prize.”
