In Pursuit of Passion
Tom Wood, 46, and a native of Calgary, Alberta has a passion for fast cars. This passion started at a very young age with his intense interest in all things that go fast. Wood is an expert in wakeboarding, skiing, and has a fitness regimen that puts most others to shame. But, all this prior training has puts Wood in an excellent position for his newest job as a race car driver.
Wood’s career started in 1996 as he competed in the WCMA Formula Ford 1600 Series. From there he excelled into the USF2000 Series, and the Toyota Atlantic Series. In 2002 he also competed in 3 Infiniti Pro Series races for Sam Schmidt Motorsports. With a career best finish of 3rd at Chicagoland Speedway, he has been hooked. In 2003, Wood signed for a full season with Sam Schmidt.
“As long as I try to run smart and stay safe, I have the strong support of my family to pursue my passion of racing”, said Wood. I do have to make sure that it does not consume me. Even though this is where his heart is, Wood says “my first priority is family and it will always be that way”.
Wood’s ultra competitive nature lends him a hand on and off the track. When he is not racing, he is managing his multiple businesses. Wood Founded and co-founded several energy and energy-service companies with operations in Canada and the U.S. and is currently Chairman of Savanna Energy Services, one of the largest private energy-service companies in Canada.
Wood’s recipe for success on the track is due to his great sense of humor, very relaxed demeanor, and intense competitive nature. This will certainly serve him well.
