TAYLOR FLETCHER SIGNS WITH SAM SCHMIDT MOTORSPORTS
TO COMPLETE THE 2003 IRL INFINITI PRO SEASON
Indianapolis, IN, September 11, 2003; Sam Schmidt Motorsports announced today that Taylor Fletcher will drive the #9 Olive Crest Foundation entry for the Infiniti Pro Series the remainder of the 2003 season beginning with the next event at California Speedway on September 20, 2003.
This will be Taylor Fletcher’s second Infiniti Pro Series event and he stated, “I am very excited about this opportunity to drive for Sam Schmidt Motorsports in my hometown. It’s great to be a part of this series and I look forward to working with the team to build upon the progress we made in Chicago. I appreciate their confidence in me and will try my best to represent the team and the series well.”
“I have known Taylor for some time and I definitely feel we have some unfinished business from Chicago,” said Schmidt. “He improved in every session last weekend and the car was extremely fast in the race. I have no doubt he would have achieved a top 5 finish in his first outing if we had not suffered gear box problems”
Traveling at these speeds is not a new experience for the California native. Taylor began his career at 10 years old racing go karts and later progressed through the Skip Barber Racing School format. From 1995 to 2000, he has competed in several open wheel divisions including Pro Formula Mazda and Toyota Atlantics, achieving a second place in national point standings as well as several road course track records on the west coast. In 2001, he graduated to the Pan American Indy Car Series, whose races included a combination of ovals and road courses in both Latin America and the United States.
Corporate sponsorship for Fletcher is being utilized to promote the children’s charities of Olive Crest Homes and Services for Abused Children through this racing program. Details of the charity-racing program can be found at www.BulletTeam.com. Olive Crest Foundation is one of the largest private networks of care and treatment for abused children. Olive Crest also supports the 1-800-74-FOSTER Program, bringing foster families and needy children together in the western United States. More information can be found at www.olivecrest.org, or by calling 1-800-550-CHILD.
The Infiniti Pro Series follows the Indy Racing League to America's premier oval tracks. Powered by a Q45, 450 horsepower engine with a six speed sequential gearbox, the Dallara built chassis can average speeds in excess of 190 MPH on a 1.5-mile super speedway and reach speeds over 200 MPH on the 2-mile super speedways like California Speedway. The final 2 races for the 2003 season will be held at the California Speedway on September 11th and at Texas MotorSpeedway on October 11th.
