Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation Hosts Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament at Lake Las Vegas Resort's South Shore Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada.
Henderson, NV., Thursday, March 4, 2004 – The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, a non-profit foundation that helps individuals overcome spinal cord injuries and other debilitating illnesses by facilitating scientific research, medial treatment, rehabilitation and technological advancements, hosted its Inaugural “Race to Recovery” Charity Golf Tournament, at Lake Las Vegas Resort’s South Shore Golf Club, on Thursday, March 4th, 2004.
This year's “Race to Recovery” Golf Tournament was sold out and raised an amazing $23,000 for spinal cord research. The event featured celebrities, tournament contests, a silent auction and dinner with great prizes and giveaways.
Schmidt stated, “We are extremely pleased with our turn out and proceeds from our first SSPF golf effort. We were blessed with fantastic weather and appreciate the support of NASCAR driver's Scott Riggs and Donnie Neuenberger as well as past Pro Football players Napoleon McCallum and Tom Mack. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our many sponsors that allowed this event to be so financially successful.”
Rising from the shoreline of Nevada's largest privately owned lake to the desert hills, the private, 6,925-yard Jack Nicklaus designed SouthShore Golf Club draws upon Lake Las Vegas Resort's unique topography to provide a one-of-a-kind golfing experience.
Schmidt was a top Indy car driver until he was paralyzed in a test crash on Jan. 6, 2000. He is currently an Indy car team owner. He is also the founder of the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, which strives to improve the quality of life of paralysis patients and also raise funds for medical research and treatment of spinal cord injuries.
