No. 77 Bowers and Wilkins FAZZT Race Team Race Notes

  • Alex started 20th and gained four positions in the opening laps, moving up to the 16th position.
  • Alex stayed within the 16th – 19th positions throughout the first half of the race.
  • After a mid-race yellow on lap 133, the team made a strategic decision to leave Alex on the track as the leaders pitted when pits were opened.
  • Alex took over the lead during yellow and continued in the lead on lap 142 when the track went green again and led until he needed to pit on lap 167.
  • Alex led 33 laps tonight. He had previously led 21 laps in the IZOD IndyCar Series.
  • As the pit stop ended, the fueling rig remained engaged and when Alex exited the pits fueler Phil McRoberts was struck by the fueling hose as it pulled loose from the car and he was thrown to the ground. McRoberts was unhurt by the incident and Alex returned to the track.
  • Due to leaving the pit box with the fuel hose engaged, Alex was penalized with a drive-through penalty which put him back in 18th place when he returned to the track.
  • Alex had to pit one final time for a splash of fuel on lap 221 and ended up in 18th place, three laps down from the leaders.

Alex Tagliani on the Firestone 550K Race:

“The team did a fantastic job tonight and gave me a really good car so it’s disappointing to not be able to capitalize on that. We had a little issue in Qualifying yesterday and the guys worked on it last night and fixed the problem. And you could see that we had a great car when we got out front. Once I got out front, I had a great car and the Bowers and Wilkins #77 car was absolutely amazing. We realized we had a small issue in Indianapolis and it carried over here in Qualifying. But the guys worked very hard and found the problem last night and I knew that tonight when I had such a good car. But the racing is just so competitive that you just can’t make it up when you start from the back. I’m so proud of the boys and so proud to show what a good car we had when we got out front. That is testament to the hard work of the team and shows the character of everyone on this team. Now, we know we have a good car so we will leave and regroup and do a better job in Iowa.”

FAZZT Announces New Chief Operating Officer

INDIANAPOLIS (June 4, 2010) – The FAZZT Race Team announced today that team General Manager Rob Edwards has been named Chief Operating Officer of the FAZZT Race Team. Those responsibilities will include overseeing the commercial operations and sales division of the FAZZT Race Team. Edwards replaces former COO Jim Freudenberg who resigned his position earlier this month for personal reasons.

“We are looking forward to continue to grow and develop the commercial operations side of the FAZZT Race Team,” said Edwards. “The team has a very strong commercial platform with a number of very strong partners and we will continue to strengthen those partnerships and create new ones.”

The FAZZT Race Team and its driver Alex Tagliani are currently 11th in points in the IZOD IndyCar Series in their first season of competition. The team has had an extremely strong debut, starting on the front row of the season opener in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Most recently the team showed outstanding effort at the Indianapolis 500 where the team’s full-time driver Tagliani started fifth and finished 10th. In addition to starting Tagliani, the team also prepared and entered an entry for open-wheel veteran Bruno Junqueira. Junqueira was the fastest bump day qualifier, started 25th and finished 32nd after an early accident forced him out of the race.

About FAZZT Race Team: The FAZZT Race Team was formed in July 2009 as a partnership between Andre Azzi of the Azzi Race Division, ATG, and other business partners. The team fields a full-time IndyCar Series team that made its debut at the season opening event in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The team has four Dallara chassis and has Canadian driver Alex Tagliani to drive the #77 entry. Andre Azzi, a Montreal based entrepreneur, is the teams’ Chief Executive Officer and Rob Edwards is the Chief Operating Officer and team General Manager. The team is housed in a 25,000 ft. race shop on the north side of Indianapolis with a second facility that will house their Research and Design division in Montreal. Alex Tagliani on today’s race:
“The team did a fantastic job and the Bowers and Wilkins car was too quick. On one restart I guess I turned it wrong and Saavedra didn’t give me a lot of room out there and he was a lap down, and I got into the marbles and lost 10 positions.
